As a recent graduate with a Master’s in mechanical engineering, Martin Hrastinski is already finding his way at Vidaco, where he’s gaining invaluable experience in automation and robotics. In this interview, he shares how his role at Vidaco is shaping his career and pushing him to grow both professionally and personally.

Q: Hi Martin. Tell us something about your educational background?

A: I completed my Master’s in mechanical engineering at the University North in Varaždin, specializing in Production. It gave me a solid foundation in engineering principles, production processes, and modern manufacturing tech. I learned a lot about production optimization, quality control, and advanced manufacturing methods.

Q: How does working for Vidaco bring value and growth for you, as a young engineer?

A: Even though I’ve only been at Vidaco for a short while, it’s already given me a deep dive into automation and robotics. I’m hands-on with cutting-edge tech and learning how Vidaco innovates for clients. It’s not just about honing my technical skills; it’s personal growth too. Challenges here keep me sharp and the team vibe pushes me to grow professionally and personally. I’m eager to keep developing in this dynamic field and help Vidaco thrive.

Q: What are the biggest challenges for you as a young engineer working with clients?

A: Building trust and credibility is a big one. Being new to the game, I work hard to show I know my stuff and can deliver. Clear communication is key—I must listen closely, ask the right questions, and explain solutions in a way that clicks. Managing expectations is another challenge, especially with complex tech issues. But with each project, I gain more confidence and skills to handle it all better.

Q: What’s your vision of yourself in the next year?

A: Professionally, I see myself diving deeper into automation and robotics, tackling more complex projects, and stepping up in my team. I want to be a go-to engineer, delivering top-notch results for our clients. Personally, I’m focused on sharpening my communication and problem-solving skills. I aim to be a more seasoned pro who can take on any challenge with confidence and be a real asset to the team.

What’s New in TrailerWIN 2025?

Successful Event in Skopje Brought Together Users and Industry Leaders

On Friday, March 28th, Vidaco, in collaboration with SAT-RA, successfully hosted What’s New in TrailerWIN 2025? at the SAT-RA facilities in Skopje, Macedonia. The event gathered TrailerWIN users, prospective clients, and industry professionals from across the region for a day filled with knowledge sharing, hands-on demonstrations, and meaningful networking.

The conference opened with a welcome from the Vidaco team, who presented the company’s role as the regional distributor of TrailerWIN. This was followed by a detailed walkthrough of the latest features and improvements in the 2025 version of TrailerWIN, covering all modules and practical use cases.

A highlight of the event was the case study presentation by Vidaco, where attendees were able to see TrailerWIN functionalities demonstrated on a real-world example. This provided valuable insight into how the software can be effectively applied in everyday work, particularly in trailer design and engineering tasks.

The second part of the conference spotlighted our host, SAT-RA, who presented their company vision and capabilities. Their team also delivered a compelling case study showing how they successfully integrate TrailerWIN into their operations.

The formal program concluded with an optional guided tour of SAT-RA’s facilities, followed by an informal networking session that allowed participants to connect, exchange experiences, and discuss future collaboration opportunities.

Must see: Custom follow-up solution for Wollsdorf

After producing custom solution for stretching full size, finished automotive leather hides for our client Wollsdorf, we have got a request to do a follow-up custom solution for automotive steering wheels as well.

What was it all about this time?

As a following to full hide stretching machine, VIDACO provided custom solution for stretching, measuring and logging longitudinal and transversal elongation already cut parts of steering wheels sets. Machine is fully flexible and ergonomic for various sets of products. Process of stretching and measuring elongation at specific force (N) and speed (depends on parts and process), is needed to comply with standard in automotive industry production chain.

Making the life of operators much easier…

Machines replace the tedious work of operator to stretch and check every single piece by hand. Operator is still needed, though, to do tactile and visual inspection that is completely based of tactile evaluation of parts.

Custom by definition

Due to very specific requirements and the high-quality level required in automotive steering wheel leather, requirements for the machine were very specific and no market solution was adaptable for this purpose. The machine provided us with the ability to stretch the hide parts in two axis independently with fine adjustment of force/speed and travel for each axis. Minimal clamping area provides almost no defect on parts. Seamless integration with other elements of the system allowed us to develop this unique approach to leather inspection and measuring.

The development process smooth as butter

Looking in retrospect, the development process went smoothly and quickly considering complexity and size of the project. From first discussions to commissioning in only a few months VIDACO managed to exceed our expectations allowing us to gain additional insight in developing other parts of the system and thus improve and accelerate development process for the whole system.

The complexity and uniqueness of such an approach to leather inspection did not allow us to use, or even adapt, market solutions. The necessity to seamlessly integrate hardware and software, together with operator, into a single process was a key point. Also, having flexibility in controlling the process and changing requirements as we go, sometimes outside of the initial scope of the project, was key for the success.

Challenged by Inexall to transform a nascent idea into a tangible factory concept, our team was tasked with crafting a solution from the ground up, based solely on desired capacity and available resources. This undertaking involved selecting equipment, designing the process flow, integrating the system within an undeveloped hall, and producing a budgetary study to estimate costs.

Vidaco’s engineering team focused on creating an economically and environmentally sustainable solution. Key features of our conceptual design include:
